V∞ at encounters

E (encounter 1)
2.66 km/s
Rogers 2015 Table 3 row VISIT-1 '5:4(3)-': V∞ flyby = 2.664 km/s; V∞ launch = 2.009 km/s.
M (encounter 2)
— (not published)
Rogers 2015 Table 3 tabulates V∞ launch and V∞ flyby (both at the Earth flyby), not a distinct V∞ at Mars.

a/e SOURCED: Rogers 2015 Table 3 (circular-coplanar, post-leveraging values). perihelion/aphelion not tabulated by Table 3 (Table 4's per/apo are analytic-ephemeris numbers, not directly comparable). inclination=0 by definition of the coplanar model.

Orbit view 2.5D ecliptic projection

Top-down ecliptic view: the Sun at centre, true J2000 ellipses for Earth, Mars, and the cycler's heliocentric ellipse (a=1.22, e=0.184). E M Sun Encounter Earth Encounter Mars
spacecraft: idealized coplanar ellipse planets: J2000 osculating ellipse (Standish & Williams Table 1) clock: idealized phase clock (no epoch) orientation: coplanar-idealized (no Ω/ω published — in-plane ellipse) encounters: time-true on the idealized phase clock (real mean motions, phase chosen so the geometry's encounters occur)

Encounter proximity — spacecraft↔planet distance over one period; the dips are the encounters

Earth min 121512 km
Mars min 0.195 AU

Edge-on (X–Z) — i = 0° (coplanar-idealized — flat in this view)

Notes

VISIT-1 5:4(3)- circular-coplanar establishment variant. K=5 Earth-orbit V-infinity-leveraging insertion with maneuver on the 3rd spacecraft orbit BEFORE line of apsides ('-'). The lowest ΔV_savings (0.038 km/s) in Rogers Table 3 alongside the 4:3(2)- variant — VISIT cyclers have low V_inf at both Earth and Mars in the idealized model and require minimal leveraging benefit. Admitted under the v4.7 catalogue-scope expansion as orbit_class= precursor_mga (wave 2, 2026-06-17). The inserts_into pointer resolves to niehoff-visit1.
